The Portland District Library Board meets the fourth Friday of each month, except August and December, at 9:00 a.m. in the library's meeting room. All meetings are open to the public. Questions and concerns may be addressed with the Library Director at any time.

Ruth Callihan has recently retired from the Portland District Library. She has worked at the library part-time since 1977. Ruth has seen many changes over the years including the change from writing one's name on a card when checking out books to scanning a barcode from a library card at the computer station, using the internet and computer software instead of relying on an encyclopedia or reference book, moving from records to cassettes to music CDs, from 16 mm movies to videocassettes to DVDS, and the expansion and renovation of our wonderful library building. Some things remain the same though such as the wonderful partrons we encounter every day and the love that many have for reading. Ruth has thoroughly enjoyed the people, and the patrons will miss her ready smile and helpful manner.
Susan Baldyga is the newest staff member on board but is not really all that new- she worked at the library 10 years ago. She quickly picked up on the computer software0it's the same program we had back then and has easily learned the new programs. The only thing is, the library is a lot bigger than it was in 1998. But Susan is a regular at the library so she knows her way around. We are happy to have susan back with us.
