Media services

We have a wide selection of videos and DVDs available for check out, along with Books on Tape, Books on CD and Playaways.
Computers: The library has computers available for patron use, both upstairs for adults, and downstairs for children.
To use the computers we do require you to have a library card with our library, and the first time you use the computers Reference Desk to register.
After registering to use the computers adults can accesse their computers by using your library card number and a Pin number of your choosing. Children go to the Children's Reference desk and sign in by showing the librarian their library card.

We also have 2 laptop computers available for adults for in-library use.

There is a computer available for use in our History/Genealogy Room, along with a Micro-film machine with rolls of the Portland Review & Observer dating back to 1868. 

*Patrons ages 17 and under will need to have a parent accompany them to the library*
*to read over and sign our Internet Policy.*

Community room

The community room is available for use by both commercial and non-profit groups. Non-profit organizations can use the room for no cost. Commercial groups are asked to pay a rental fee of $50. Read the contract and complete the application form for each requested date and forward the information to the library director. You will be contacted by phone to confirm your reservation.

Computer Classes for Adult Beginners

Portland District Library is pleased to offer beginning computer classes for adults. This four week class aims to increase the comfort level of those who rarely use computers. Classes are free and open to the public. Classes meet for 1 hour for each of four weeks. This class is geared towards those who want to learn the very basics. We strive to get users to the point that they can check email, compose a basic letter and begin searching for information on the internet.

Topics:
• Week 1: Basic Terms and Actions
• Week 2: Documents in Word
• Week 3: Internet Searching
• Week 4: Email 

Class size is limited to 5 participants. Please register by calling the circulation desk at 647-6981 ext.1
Classes are offered periodically throughout the year - class times and registration instructions will be published at the library and in the Portland Review & Observer and on the website.

Donations

Portland District Library is honored to accept donations and memorials. 

Memorials: Please contact the library director to discuss how your donation can best serve the needs of the library while memorializing your loved ones. 

Books and Videos: Donations of books and other media can be dropped off at the main (circulation) desk. The library staff will choose which books to place on the shelves and which books to sell in the used book room.
